Mandeep served at Toastmaster with a theme about beating the summer heat. Remember to stay hydrated and think about your animals as well!
We had 11 members and 3 guests (guests were David, Brian, and past member Praveen).
Scott opened the meeting with a speaking tip; realize that people will be staring at you when you’re on-stage and make mental note of it so that you’re prepared when the time comes.
Rupali proposed that we host an open house/ice cream social on Monday August, 5th. She is leading the efforts on putting together a flyer we can all share. Other Highlights:
- Tom’s word of the day, fruition, was used 9 times! Fruition is the attainment of anything desired. (i.e. after years of hard work she finally brought her idea to full fruition)
- Elizabeth elevated her grammarian role by offering a lesson about proper comma usage from her daily grammar book:
- When the salutation in your email starts with Hello or Hi, then you should put a comma before the name of the person you’re addressing. For example: “Hi, Enyonam.”
- There is no comma after the word Dear when it is used at the start of a letter or an email. For example: “Dear Enyonam,”
- Tony’s speech was about true leadership and how real leaders use empathy to lead their teams.
- Scott reminded me to take a pause after an important point or quote
- Tom kicked off table topics with an explanation of James Thurber’s character, Walter Mitty. Tom then asked, who (or what) you fantasize being.
- Nadine would be an entertainer
- Robert would win tournaments as a professional tennis player
- Brian would visit beautiful parts of the work sailing his yacht
- Praveen said he’s is happy with his life, then joked that he would be Jerome
- Elizabeth tied her table topics to the day’s speech about leadership and said she would be a great leader
- Tony would be Travis Barker, best known as the drummer for Blink-182
- Jerome would be Barry Sanders, former running back for the Detroit Lions and all around great person
- Elizabeth won table topics!
