We had 11 members and 6 guests (guests included George, Sachin, Nancy, Jane, Adriane and Kimberly).

Brian is now a member!

Our Open House meeting is still confirmed for August 5th.

Scott opened with his speaker tip of the week. This week’s tip was borrowed from something Sarah mentioned last week; Scott reminded speakers to “be aware of your quivers and push through them when on stage.”

Tony was the Toastmaster to a Sand theme

Our theme was inspired by the book, ‘The World in a Grain: The Story of Sand and How It Transformed Civilization’ by Vince Beiser.

Vince was recently featured on the design podcast, 99% Invisibile.

On the podcast, Vince says that sand is the most important solid substance on earth. It’s the literal foundation of modern civilization. Sand is used for so much, including silicon for the chips in electronics, concrete, asphalt, glass, brick, and much more!

Kudos to our members (Bruce, Enyonam, Jerome, Tom and Sunny) for stepping up and filling several roles last minute.

Thank you.Elizabeth chose ‘dubious’ as our word of the day and it was used 9 times!

Nadine presented an inspiring speech titled: Throw your old baggage to the curb

Tom stepped up and presented a speech titled: My dad was a gambler

Enyonam led Table Topics with a theme around friendship. She opened with the Make New Friends song lyrics:

“Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver, the other is gold. A circle is round, it has no end. That’s how long, I will be your friend.”

She was inspired to talk about the topic because her Gold friend Jane was with her, visiting from Canada.

Elizabeth, Kimberly, Brian and Bruce all shared stories about their friends.

Bruce won the award for best Table Topic speech.

Jerome gave a great tip during his “ah, um” report. He said “instead of using a filler word, just take a moment to collect your thoughts. It’s likely that your audience needs that time to think too!”
