Sarah served as Toastmaster with a theme of “Living Simply.” In true minimalist fashion, she provided empty agendas 😉 (actually, the system accidentally deleted everyone’s roles).

Then Sarah gave us some background on minimalism including the book ‘Walden’ by Henry David Thoreau and noted that Gandhi was indeed the ultimate minimalist.

We had 21 attendees including 8 guests!

Scott led our first new member initiation ceremony.

Scott also opened the meeting with his weekly speaking tip: Even if you just have a minor speaking role, make it a speaking opportunity.

Other Highlights:

Sarah offered some tips for living simply:

  • Consume less
  • Become self-sufficient (learn to sew!)
  • Step away from technology
  • Eat a simplified diet (focus on real foods)

Mitra provided our joke of the day and also provided us some info about his culture. He called his joke a “PJ,” meaning “Poor Joke.”

George’s word of the day was ‘ambivalent.’ It was used 3 times.

Tony watched for grammar and counted 33 filler words. We especially need to work on so and um.

Mitra gave his 5th speech! It was all about HVAC&R Systems (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Systems).

  • Rupali gave a great evaluation encouraging more eye contact to the entire room instead of just one area.

Enyonam led table topics with a bag of fun items we needed to “sell” to imaginary investors. She kicked off the table topics session with an energetic “welcome to Shark Tank!”

  • Sunny sold the group on a super smart portable speaker
  • John had the entire audience laughing about his ab roller (with red grips!) – He Won best Table Topics speaker
  • Caitlyn (a guest) sold the sharks a turn table DJ stand
  • Fowota (guest and Enyonam’s daughter) told the group about the perks of her password protected journal
  • Elizabeth asked for investments on a top secret contraption that was sure to be the solution to global warming

We still had time left at the end of the meeting and Scott noticed that Nancy didn’t get the opportunity to speak. He welcomed her to the stage to tell her story and Nancy essentially gave her Icebreaker!

Nicole will be our Toastmaster next week. Please click here now and sign up for a role.
