Nicole served as Toastmaster sharing things you can do without leaving your home. There were 9 Members and 1 Guest in attendance. We started on time and ended 15 minutes early.
The group collectively decided to meet next Monday on Memorial Day. George will serve as Toastmaster. Please sign up for a role if you will be in attendance.
Rikas has officially joined the club! Welcome!
The Officer team met after the meeting and decided to keep meetings virtual using Zoom until Sept 30th. That decision will be revisited in the middle of August. The club’s goal is to eventually meet in person again but for planning and marketing it made sense to establish a club policy. We reserve the right to change that decision should new health related information become available.
Scott suggested using the “Private Member Directory” on the club website if you ever need a fellow Member’s contact information. If you sign up for a role and need to cancel, 1. Contact the Toastmaster, 2. Remove yourself from the agenda, and 3. Put a note at the bottom of the agenda. Make sure you hit save after any update to the agenda!
The WOD was “Gumption”. It means shrewd or spirited initiative and resourcefulness. The group only used it 3 times but Area Director Shawn said the club has shown tremendous gumption to maintain its productivity through the pandemic. Many clubs across the globe are struggling to stay engaged.
Nicole shared Reader’s Digest “40 Things You Can Do While Staying At Home”. Highlight’s include:
- Meditate
- Set up a Home Theatre
- Journal
- Contact 1918 Spanish Flu Survivors
- Knit
- Learn a new language
- Clean your windows
- Check out the above link for a complete list
George gave a Level 3 elective speech. He got super creative by speaking to the Mystery, Beauty and Transcendence of the view from his apartment window. After the speech he showed a picture of his laptop / computer set up from his point of view. He had his notes on his computer directly behind his laptop camera so he never had to look away. He also suggested using post it notes all around the camera so you can maintain eye contact.
Robert praised George’s descriptive language and Scott encouraged the group to draw inspiration from George’s speech output. Remember why you joined and give a speech soon!
Rich stepped up last minute as Table Topic Master. He asked participants to choose a place where they would like to live other than their current location. It could be real or imaginary. They then had to describe what they would do, what would their days look like, and what pet would they have with them.
Some responses included Hawaii, Texas, Maldives, Mars, Nepal, and a private island. Area Director Shawn took home best speaker with Beaufort, SC.
Remember we ARE meeting next week to a Memorial Day Theme. Invite a friend and let Scott know ahead of time if they plan on attending.
