Scott suggested setting a goal for your Toastmasters journey as his speaking tip. He referenced his own goal of leading the club to a President’s Distinguished status and personally completing Level 4 of his Effective Coaching Pathways. He said a goal helps you stay focused amidst a sea of distractions and rewards you with a sense of accomplishment when you complete it.
Geoff taught the group a helpful tactic when serving as timer. He used Microsoft Paint to create green, yellow and red photo files. He then switched his virtual background in zoom to the appropriate color to inform the speaker of their time status. You’ll have to go to your privacy settings to allow Zoom to access the created/saved picture files. The same goes for any virtual background you wish to use. Bravo Geoff!
The WOD was “Devise” which means to plan or invent through careful thought. Seven people managed to incorporate it into their opportunity.
Rich referenced his West Virginia roots and how prior NASA missions inspired many in the state to pursue scientific careers. He taught the group about Mike Collins, who happened to be piloting the ship around the moon as Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were walking on it.
Rich also informed the group about NASA’s Mercury-Redstone 3 mission and NASA Engineer Homer Hickam.
Nicole returned to the virtual stage to give a speech on her leadership style. She creatively weaved in her planning of a family reunion to illustrate her three dominant leadership styles of Affiliate, Coaching and Democratic. She suggested a good family reunion planner will consider the desires of the entire group besides her own.
Robert served as Table Topics Master. He spoke about his love of storytelling and gave participants a theme to tell a story about. They included Princess, Mermaids, Adventure, Daisys, Veggy-tales, Frisbies, Airplanes and Snow. Nicole took home top prize.
Robert also mentioned the International Storytelling Center and National Storytelling Conference as a must visit for any storytelling enthusiast.
Geoff will serve as Toastmaster next week to a Father’s Day theme. Please sign up for a role on the agenda.
