As sports lovers around the world celebrate World Cup, there is no way that Lake Norman Toastmasters club members were going to miss out on that opportunity. Thanks to our President, Fowota, who helped us get into the spirit of the World Cup as that was her theme at the Nov 28 meeting.

There were 7 members and 2 guests in attendance. Fowota shared great information about World Cup. Did you know there are 32 teams in the World Cup? Compared to other high-profile sports events, turns out the Olympics has a slightly better edge against the World Cup in terms of viewership.

Bob was the Jokemaster and Shailiza chose the word ‘sustain’ as the Word of the Day.

We weren’t planning on meeting on Nov 28 – this was all a last-minute preparation. Kudos to both Fowota and George, who came prepared as the Toastmaster of the day and with the last-minute prepared speech. George’s speech was titled: My Three Beauties

He introduced us to his three favorite musical instruments: Guitar, Guitarlele (who knew there was such a thing? a mix between guitar and ukelele), and Midi controller. His speech lasted for 6 minutes and 47 seconds. Considering it was an 11th-hour preparation, he did well. Also, he effortlessly incorporated all his three instruments during his speech, giving his audience a taste of all their sounds.

Table Topics Master this day was Shailiza, her main topic revolved around sports. And the question that won the best speaker vote was: Tell us about a sportsman you admire the most. It was certainly not the question, but it was his response, that made Rich the Table Topics winner. Where he gave a nod to Michael Jordan and beautifully explained the reason behind it.

Throughout the meeting, Fowota managed to illuminate us with interesting facts about World Cup. It was overall a very productive session!

Don’t forget to attend next week’s meeting, as we’ll have Calvin Duncan, grace us with his presence. And helping us to run the meeting will be Rich. We love having guests join us. Please do.
