The meeting started on time, and we had a full house/screen-full of 17 Toastmasters and guests attending. The Toastmaster of the day was Rich and the day’s theme was shopping; he shared some wonderful insights on how shopping experiences have changed in the last few decades.

Word of the Day was: Corroborate

The main highlight of this session was Calvin Duncan.
Calvin has been a member of the Toastmasters organization for over 16 years, is a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), and has served in several district and club leadership roles. In 2017 he won the District 37 International Speech contest and traveled to Vancouver, Canada, to compete with global speakers in the World Championship of Public Speaking Semi-Finals. His 6-8 min speech was titled “Exact Change.”

His speech was very inspiring; he shared his experience of meeting a stranger who asked for an exact change of 49 cents and how little probing into the stranger’s story positively impacted his life. Later in the meeting, Calvin also addressed audience questions on how to be a better speaker and shared his toastmaster journey.

The theme of the Table Topics corroborated with the holiday season. Table Topics master Bob, asked various questions about Christmas (Gifts, movies, places..) and fellow toastmasters and guests shared some wonderful experiences.

Overall the meeting was a great learning and fun experience.

A special shoutout to the General Evaluator of the day, Rita for contributing to this blog post.

We’re planning to meet in-person on Dec 19, 2022 for a dinner to celebrate the end of the year (and maybe have a round of Table Topics!) and holiday season. If you’re interested in joining, please contact us via facebook or our website.
